FAQ

What Will Happen on the First Appointment?

Your initial appointment will be 45-60 minutes in duration.  An initial evaluation will be performed by your physiotherapist. A thorough review of your medical history leading up to the injury will be discussed. The physiotherapist will ask you questions in order to understand your condition and will then conduct several orthopedic tests to determine the source of your pain. After your evaluation is completed, some portion of the treatment plan will be started on your first visit. There is always time to answer any questions you may have regarding your condition. At the end of your visit, you will be asked to schedule follow-up appointments based on your needs and availability.  Your physiotherapist will advise you on how many treatments your condition is likely to require.

Do I need a Doctor’s referral before booking an appointment?

With direct access legislation passed in British Columbia, our professionals can treat you immediately without a prescription or referral from a physician. Some extended medical insurances require a referral in order for a patient to claim their Physiotherapy expenses.

What kinds of services and treatment can I expect?

Your physiotherapist will take your medical history, observe your posture and movement, and evaluate your problem area(s). Treatment may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Manual therapy (hands-on): trigger point release, soft tissue and joint mobilization and manipulation.
  • Therapeutic exercise prescription
  • Application of therapeutic modalities for pain management: electrical stimulation, ultrasound, heat, ice, laser, mechanical traction.
  • Acupuncture
  • Postural education: core strengthening, review of proper sitting and standing postures and body mechanics.
  • Home education and management program: home exercises and education regarding the “do’s and don’ts” of your injury.

What should I bring to my first visit?

We ask that you bring the following:

  • CareCard
  • Suitable attire: eg. shorts, tank top
  • A doctor’s referral note is NOT required for private physiotherapy.  However, some private insurance companies may require that you have one if you plan to submit the fees for reimbursement. Please check with your provider for details.
  • Diagnostic test results relevant to your problem (X-rays, CT scan, MRI results)

How long is each session?

You can expect to be at the clinic for between 45 – 60 minutes on your first visit.  The duration and number of treatments will depend on the issues being addressed.  Each subsequent appointment will be 30 – 60 minutes in duration.

Please be prompt as your appointment time is especially booked for you.  If you are very late for your appointment, you may have to reschedule your appointment.

What are your office hours?

Our clinic is open 6 days per week.  Monday to Friday we book our first appointments at 8:00 am and our last appointment at 6:45 pm.  Saturday appointments are also available from 8 am to 4 pm.

What is your policy regarding missed appointments and late cancellations?
